About GSL Recycling
Great Salt Lake Recycling is a company that recycles tires into various products and materials. It was founded by Fred Bonnie, a passionate recycler and a versatile entrepreneur.
Fred has a rich and diverse background in education, engineering, and recycling. He has a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a minor in music from BYU University, and two master’s degrees in anthropology and development education from Stanford University. He also served in the Peace Corps in the Philippines for two years, teaching English, science, and teacher training.
Fred has explored many different careers and gained valuable skills and experience in how to make things work. He has worked as a welder, a purchasing agent, a diesel mechanic, a planning department worker, and a field engineer for a geophysical engineering research company.
Fred has also started several recycling businesses, such as a rendering plant, a cooking oil processing plant, and a food waste processing plant. His most successful recycling project was founding his first tire recycling company that processed 1.5 million tires annually and created innovative products and materials from tires.
Fred also co-founded a pipe fabrication company that serviced the mining industry for 12 years. He has always kept an eye on the advances in tire recycling and dreamed of returning to the industry.
Fred believes that tires can be transformed into many useful and environmentally friendly products and materials. He is excited to share his vision and expertise with Great Salt Lake Recycling’s customers and partners.
